Meet Eugene "Bear" Gibbs
@bgene903 on IG

Hi, my name is Eugene and my nickname is Bear. I'm a 200hr RYT certified yoga instructor and CPR/AED certified. I teach yoga classes and arm balances workshops. Outside of yoga, I do circus arts where I teach handbalancing, human pyramid building and basic Acro skills to kids, adults and elderly. I love learning about anatomy and biomechanics of movement, so I can help my students feel and move better within their own bodies. I make the impossible possible with my energy, care and teaching others. I have a background bachelor’s in art from Georgia State University. Also, I have a background in hip hop dance, breakdance and performing choreography.

SATURDAY

SAT 9:30am MINI TRAMP w/ Whitney Jones - Whitney is a former competitive gymnastics coach who has been teaching mini trampoline, tumbling, and fabrics at Dragonfly for 8 years. This workshop is all levels and open to beginners.

SAT 9:30am INTRO TO AERIALS WORKSHOP w/ Jake Weinstein and/or Lissa McLeod - A chance to try out fabrics, trapeze, and lyra, all in one class! For beginners and those needing a refresh.

SAT 11:15am STILTS WORKSHOP w/ David Stewart - Learn to walk on stilts! This is an all-levels workshop, and beginners are welcome.

SAT 11:15am AERIAL CUBE & AERIAL LADDER WORKSHOP w/ Jake Weinstein - Get off the ground in ways you may not have tried before (or want to do more of). All levels welcome. Be prepared to climb around a little!

SAT 2pm INT FABRICS = Making Connections in the Air: Fabric Theory Building Blocks w/ Guest Instructor Molly Graves - Most of us start our aerial journey by memorizing set wraps and sequences. Over time, we can begin mixing the basic colors we have on our palette to expand our vocabulary and create new possibilities. This workshop will focus on recognizing and exploring patterns and similarities in fabric wraps to help you develop your creative fabric theory brain.

SAT 2pm SPANISH WEB w/ Evelyn Barnette - An introductory lesson to Spanish Web. Learn how to safely tie Prussic knots, how to safely use hand loop, and how to properly set the web. We will also explore the delights of hanging from our ankles! Evelyn has trained in Spanish Web for 4 years and done numerous performances.

SAT 2pm DOUBLES TRAPEZE = Duo Trapeze (Doubles) w/ Guest Instructor Taylor Penman - Duo trapeze combines strength, agility, and partner movements that are sure to wow a crowd. No partners are required for class. We will pair people accordingly. Jean shorts or grippy fabric for bottoms and a shirt with sleeves is advised. Be prepared to test your strength and team work to make beautiful art!

SAT 3:45pm ADV FABRICS = Advanced Fabrics: Creative Choices in the Air--Taking the Wrap Less Traveled w/ Guest Instructor Molly Graves - As you expand your vertical vocabulary, aerial choreography can become less about what skill or drop you are wrapping and more about how you get there. In this workshop we will consider techniques such as slack drags / pulling loops, jump-throughs and hip hops that allow for unexpected transitions and alternate ways of putting on wraps.

SAT 3:45pm INT / ADV DANCE TRAPEZE w/ Guest Instructor Taylor Penman - Be prepared to spin and learn to be dynamic in elegant ways. You may even be surprised how many tricks from other apparatuses transition to working on a dance trapeze. Wear clothes that protect your skin from being rubbed off by the bars or ropes. If you have trapeze boots, wear them.

SUNDAY

SUN 9am ROPE =
Carving Space: Intro to Dynamics on Rope w/ Guest Instructor Molly Graves - This workshop will explore how our bodies carve through space with the various dynamic pathways on rope. We will consider skills/topics such as the fundamentals of the basic beat pathways, flares in and out of hip keys, front & back balance, hip hops, and short patterns or sequences.

SUN 11am
Circus Play & Invented Apparatuses w/ Jake Weinstein - Combine aerial equipment or invent something you've never seen before to explore and play, with a focus on group collaboration. All levels welcome.

SUN 3pm ADAGIO = Adagio: A Dance of Balance & Flexibility w/ Guest Instructor Taylor Penman - Adagio is a dance of balance and flexibility. This is not a true hand-to-hand class. We will be finding unique and non-traditional ways to learn body-balancing tricks that can flow together to create an act. No partners are required for class, as we will pair people accordingly.
